The Cook County Forest Preserve received a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Conservation to help acquire the 110-acre Younghusband Farm in unincorporated Palatine Township. The farm is located on Dundee road a mile east of Barrington road in the northwest section of Cook County.

H. Yuonghusband The land, which was the private residential property of the late Mrs. Hannah H. Younghusband, was purchased to provide a buffer area between the Baker’s Lake Preserve and approaching development. It is home to to several endangered birds, and is one of the largest nesting sites of the Black-Crown Night Heron, the Great Blue Heron and the Great White Egret.  This was Mrs. Younghusband's gift to the people of Cook County. Truly a special person and friend to wildlife.

Purchase Price: $2,900,000
